Neck pain and whiplash
Neck pain is a very common condition.
It may occur as a result of an injury or car accident, you may just wake up with it (wry neck) or it may be of gradual onset due to arthritic conditions or poor posture.
This is often the case while sitting at a computer or reading. Pain in the neck results in a loss of movement, especially with rotation.
It also causes muscle spasm across the shoulders and you may have other symptoms such as headaches. You may get pain in the arm or hands if the nerves in your neck are affected.
Treatment of neck pain includes massage, mobilisation and manipulation of the joints in your neck to relieve pain and restore full movement.
Treatment of acute neck pain can be very successful and symptoms can settle quite quickly. However in certain conditions especially where there is pain in the arm symptoms generally take slightly longer to improve.
Stretching or range of movement exercises are encouraged to maintain flexibility in the neck also.
Heat treatment is great a getting the muscles to relax.
