Sports injuries
There are many different injuries that can happen during sport.
The majority of injuries are to muscle and ligament.
These injuries if not properly treated can lead to ongoing problems which can affect your sporting performance.
It is important to seek professional assessment and treatment to ensure no unnecessary complications arise and to get you back playing as soon as possible. Injuries left to heal themselves or poorly treated can lead to long term residual problems due to, soft tissue adhesions and tightness, joint stiffness, muscle imbalance and a deficiency in the return of normal muscle strength.
Many clubs will have a ‘physio’ who does rubs etc at training or before matches and this is fine but many of them are not qualified to treat injuries.
If you have an injury it is important to see a CHARTERED PHYSIO to ensure you are getting the best treatment and advice.
Treatment of sports injuries should include:
- Modalities to reduce inflammation, speed up healing process and protect the area from further damage.
- Soft tissue mobilizations to prevent excessive scar tissue formation,
- Identification of possible causing factors such as poor technique, a lack strength or movement in performing a specific sporting task.
- A rehabilitation program that includes stretching exercises to maintain flexibility and strengthening exercises to get you back fit again and prevent a reoccurrence.
