Exercise Therapy
One of the main components of Physiotherapy is Specific Exercise Therapy.
With any injury to a joint on the spine, pain and swelling inhibit muscle function and the muscle is weakened.
In back pain this is a major factor in the re-occurrence of many back pain complaints.
At all joints, especially the back, knee and shoulder, your body relies on strong muscles to protect and stabilise the joint. If there is a problem here, further injury can occur.
Your physio can give you specific exercises to enable you to strengthen the appropriate muscles.
Many of these can be done at home, but sometimes you may need to attend a gym for more advanced rehabilitation. This depends on your individual goals.
